What to do during a Plumbing Emergency?

Home Improvement

You will never know when is plumbing issue going to rear its ugly head, and that is the worst part. Plumbing problems are inevitable and can arise anytime of the day or at midnight maybe. Hence one needs to have a professional plumber on desk available who provides emergency plumbing services.

Most of the time the warning signs are more subtle than one would expect, and before you suspect it, you’re right there standing in a foot of water not even knowing what to do.

When you experience a plumbing emergency, here is what you should do:

  • Run to the water shut-off valve and first close it. This will stop the supply of water heading to your home, preventing the water damage to occur further. (Make sure are aware as to where the water shut-off valve is before a plumbing emergency actually arises.)
  • Head into your house and turn on all the faucets to drain the water if remaining within the plumbing pipes. This will help you to divert any excess of water in the pipes away from where a plumbing leak could be possible.
  • Plumbing emergencies usually create a mess by leaving a hefty amount of water in places where they shouldn’t. In order to minimize any water damage caused and mold growth, while you wait for the plumber, grab a mop and towels and start cleaning up the mess little by little.

These are a few to do’s when you are stuck in a plumbing emergency situation. Do not panic, be calm and follow these steps to resolve the issue.
